Up in Great Finborough this week.

Spitting Pig East Anglia have been up in Great Finborough this week – Great in name, and I can report that the people of the village are pretty great too – we had a great time there, at least! And we roasted a great big hog for the attendees at wedding reception we were catering that day – truth be told, almost too big to fit in the monstrous Spitting Pig roasting machine we’d brought along for the occasion, and it’s a mighty piece of equipment! Tell the truth though, it’d be a rare thing to find a hog we at Spitting Pig East Anglia couldn’t roast – we’ve never had any trouble yet, and we’ve roasted more hogs than you could shake a stick at. It wasn’t just hogs roasting on that day though – we did a fine side of beef the likes of which you don’t often see, beautifully coloured meat, and a whole lot else besides. I like to take charge of the roasting myself, and while I made sure that was running smoothly my team got going on fixing a whole range of nibbles, starters and accompaniments – everything we serve is prepared fresh on the day, I wouldn’t have it any other way. In fact, from what we heard later the catering operation was running a lot smoother than the wedding that was taking place while we were getting ready to feed the guests later on – the groom’s car broke down and the bride was telling me later that there was a couple of minutes when she thought he’d bottled it! I think she was joking… at least, I hope she was. All the guests had had several glasses of champagne by that time so everyone had started to relax a little. Well, relax and also get a little peckish! They polished off the amuse bouches we were passing round in next to no time at all, and you could practically feel the anticipation in the air when they were all sat down at tables in the marquee waiting for the main event. Well, I suppose from one point of view the main event was the marriage ceremony itself, but I’d been focusing on one thing all day, putting together the perfect meal, and it was about to be put to the ultimate taste test – two hundred hungry diners! I wasn’t worried though, we pass that test with flying colours every time, and Great Finborough was no exception. Three cheers all round for the happy couple, and another three for Spitting Pig East Anglia!
