Summer in Sussex

We seem to have been lucky in Sussex this summer, with the county bathed in often glorious sunshine and somehow managing to miss the deluge of rain that has affected most of the UK. Of course, I’m joking! I actually think we’ve had it as bad here as anywhere!

But like any good entertainers, we’ve kept the show rolling on and continued to cater for local events despite the weather. Over the past month, we’ve had a catering trailer outside in all weathers and we’ve also had it inside a giant marquee for a county music festival.

And there is one thing you can depend on in Britain this summer…if you go to any event where there is a Spitting Pig caterer, you’ll have the most succulent, mouth-watering meat you ever tasted. That’s certainly the feedback we’ve had from customers in the last month – the second most frequent comment was: ‘You don’t sell umbrellas do you?!’

One thing you can say about us Brits is that we do ‘keep calm and carry on’. For all the moaning about the weather, when it comes to it we always make the best of things.
Call it luck if you will but I haven’t catered at a single outside event this year which has been cancelled due to adverse weather. And it’s not like we haven’t had much rain!

But when all’s said and done, it’s nice to be inside and doing standard catering jobs at parties, whether at people’s homes or in halls. It gets us out of the rain for one thing, but it’s also lovely to be part of a celebratory event and see it all come together (as we’re there all day cooking the food).

Spitting Pig Sussex has been doing events across East and West Sussex over the last few weeks, many of them (thankfully indoor!) parties. From Brighton to Worthing, we have been bringing the unique Spitting Pig taste and catering experience, honed over 20 years to local people. And they love it!

Customers may not see the hours of preparation and cooking that goes into our hog roast and barbecued foods but when they see it ready to eat, slowly turning on the spit and giving off that seductive aroma as it crackles and sizzles, they just can’t get enough. And seeing that reaction is the pay off for our day’s work, which starts by taking delivery/collecting fresh food from local suppliers, then arriving at the venue just after the milkman!

We put the work into every event to make sure it is memorable for all guests/customers – not only in the tasty food we serve but in how we serve it. Our outstanding customer service is one of the reasons we get so many repeat bookings (we have two repeat bookings for parties next month). We’re really looking forward to these parties, not least because we’ve become friends with these customers after catering their previous events.
It’s not uncommon to become friends with customers. We’re there all day after all, often going well beyond expectations for event caterers, to help deliver successful functions. This dedication really means a lot to customers, and leads to repeat bookings and lasting friendships. I look forward to the coming events and helping our friends with their celebrations.
