We couldn’t ask for better weather at the moment. The sun is blazing down and everything always seems better and brighter when the weather is at its best. And Hastings couldn’t have had better weather for their annual agricultural show. Farmers brought their animal’s early ready for the milking class. Sheep were in the pens waiting to be judged. Some were going to be sheared later which probably would be a relief to them getting rid of that big thick woolly coat. Goats were in another tent with the feathered animals at the other end. Cocks crowing and when one started they all seemed to do it. Horses started arriving for the show jumping and heavy horses with drays looked magnificent in all their glory.
Everyone was having a great day. A drinks tent made sure everyone stayed hydrated and we at Hog Roast Hastings asked to come along and do the catering for a large number of people. We had done this event in the past so we weren’t fazed at the amount of people who would be coming to the show. We were asked to keep things simple by not offering too much choice and not making salads. They did however want things like our homemade apple sauce and our very tasty homemade sage & onion stuffing. We were asked to do burgers with onions and relish and hot dog sausage as they are a big success with children. BBQ pulled pork wraps were chosen for anyone who wanted something a little different. Hot roast beef and onion sandwiches with red currant jelly were also a favourite from the previous year so we decided it would be a good idea to do these again.
Queues started to form for sandwiches and wraps and everyone was enjoying the food in the lovely sunshine. As table and chairs had been set up for people to sit and enjoy the food we really did get a good idea of how much everyone was enjoying the taste. Lots of lovely comments were passed back to us and we were so grateful that they had taken the time to tell us. Hog Roast Hastings has grown over the years by word of mouth and we pride ourselves on the fact that our delicious food speaks for itself.
