When it comes to collaborations you don’t get many better than some wine and some dining. Last week our catering for an event in Dorking made that collaboration just so, as the Hog Roast Dorking team joined the Wines of Great Britain for their national pruning competition!
It’s a simple combination that works perfectly. While attendees arrived in their droves to show of their vine pruning skills, the Hog Roast Dorking team put our expertise to the test to produce a delicious hog roast lunch for everyone taking part and judging. Our dining coupled with the vineyards very own wines made an already great event a perfect one!
The Hog Roast Dorking team arrived at the beautiful vineyard here in Dorking early in the day. Unfortunately the overcast morning was a sign of worse weather to come, but while we cooked and prepped our foods the competition was able to get underway under dryness, still. Teams set themselves up to skilfully and carefully prune the vineyard, with judges on hand to watch for the very best techniques and results. Coming into the competition we had no idea just how much of a skill pruning can be, similar, we guess, to making our very own hog roasts. It looks simple and technically is, but perfecting it can be an art!
It’s also evidently hungry work, so as the judges tallied up their points and awarded the best teams their awards, the Hog Roast Dorking team had our hog roast lunch ready to go. Just as well, too, because it was around this time that the rain started to begin. Still, that would mean very little to the attendees, because once they had a glass of wine in one hand and our hog roast rolls – served with fresh slaw, sage and onion stuffing, crispy crackling, mixed salad, apple sauce, and veg and halloumi skewers – in the other, then not even a bit of damp could spoil what was a wonderful occasion.
Our thanks to WineGB for choosing Hog Roast Dorking to cater this excellent, and a further thanks and congratulations to the attendees and big winners for sharing your pruning tips with us, too!
