How Long Does It Take to Cook a Hog Roast with Hog Roast Haywards Heath?

Time is one of the most important aspects of cooking a hog roast. The process is meant to be done low and slow over many hours to really allow the pork’s flavour to come to the fore with plenty of tenderness and juiciness, while also getting that delicious charred crisp texturing around the skin.

At Hog Roast Haywards Heath we do not look to cut any corners. We came to hog roasting so that we could do it properly; we’re not looking to cheat in any way and give you and your event any less of an experience. For your event, we are going to do things right. As we tell customers often: this isn’t fast food, but it is top-end quality!

With that in mind, we will typically tell customers that they can expect their hog roast to take 6 hours at the very least. There are variations depending on the size of the pig ultimately, so that cooking time could rise to 8 or even 12 hours in the right circumstances. The general rule is that the longer the better, but if the event is under a time crunch then your Hog Roast Hayward Heath team will do their best to ensure we do not miss or delay your serving time while still giving you the best possible hog roast experience.

The long cooking times is why our Hog Roast Haywards Heath chefs will typically start their day early. For an evening event we could be beginning our roast that morning so that it is just perfect come serving time at your event. We’re always very adherent to stated serving times, so if your dinner is stated for 8pm then we are going to have it ready for then. The brilliance of our mobile hog roasting machines allows us to get that process started and then get the roast on the road still in the roaster to be finished on site. That way, you get the experience of having an authentic hog roast cooking at your event without the need to watch it for nearly 8 hours – that’s enough to really give anyone some hunger pangs!
