The wind howled and the rain poured down but that didn’t stop any of the guests enjoying the birthday party we catered yesterday. Aimee’s surprise 18th birthday celebration was booked by her parents several months ago, when we had no idea of what the weather would be like. Nevertheless, as the day loomed nearer and Aimee’s Mum called us, worried about the impending downpour, we put her mind at ease and let her know that no matter the weather, we can still cook and serve a hog roast Pirbright. We’ve done it in snow, in hail, and often in wind and rain, and our trusty gazebos and marquees help to save the day. Our hog roast Pirbright machines can be used pretty much anywhere there is enough space and ventilation – such as inside a marquee tent or even indoors. As Aimee’s party was being held in a family friend’s field, one of our marquees could easily be erected there to keep out any nasty weather elements.
Aimee’s party was due to start in the early evening yesterday, so our team got to the farm venue in the early afternoon. The medium-sized hog we had brought with us for the 45 guests would take more than 5 hours of clear cooking in this weather, once the meat had been prepped and the machine was turned on, but first, we had to set up the marquee. Still concerned that the weather could ruin her daughter’s special day, especially as the field was turning muddy with the rain, Aimee’s Mum had arranged for us to set up on some ground instead of grass, which worked out very well.
The guests started to arrive as the pig neared its roasting completion and some of us served welcome drinks while others got on with slicing bread rolls, putting the sauces and stuffing into their dishes and arranging the condiments and serviettes on the serving table. There were happy tears as Aimee turned up and her parents took off her blindfold and she came straight over to thank The Spitting Pig for her amazing surprise. The look on her face as she munched down on our lovely hog roast Pirbright was already thanks enough, though.
