Baby showers were more traditionally an all-American affair where an expectant mother gathers all her closest friends and family to celebrate the arrival and preparation for a baby with gifts, games and good food. In recent years many more Brits are starting to host their own, and why not? A baby shower is a lovely way to get everyone excited about the newest family member. Here at Hog Roast Ditchling in recent years we have been lucky enough to cater a few and know just the right special touches needed to make the day even more wonderful!
This was the case last Friday when we catered at Lynn and Simons baby shower. With only a couple of months left until the due date they were in a rush to get everything sorted. Lynn’s mum was head organiser of the shower and choose Hog Roast Ditchling to cater as she knew we were a firm family favourite and had knowledge of our extensive menu, so she knew there would be something for everyone – and she was right!
We prepared a small traditional hog roast with all the trimmings; applesauce, coleslaw and crackling! As this event was to last for a couple of hours we also prepared some delicate canapes that could be served during the gift giving and baby themed games such as when people had to try and identify parts of the baby scan, which surprisingly people were very good at!
As everyone munched down on our Hog Roast Ditchling food they were all in agreement of how tasty the hog was and that our canapes were some of the best they’ve had. To end the afternoon Lynn and Simon took part in another very American tradition of a gender reveal. This is where everyone gets to find out the sex of the baby for the first time. As Lynn and Simon wheeled out a beautiful tiered cake and with baited breath cut a slice…we all cheered at the sight of the pink filling. Congratulations to Lynn and Simon on your baby girl!
