Another week and another Crawley farmers market. I look forward to these to be honest because its a great opportunity to meet and network. There were only two of us managing our pitch at the market. Didn’t seem much sense in everyone coming out since we wouldn’t be needing any service staff. We arrived fairly early but as usual here were already plenty of stalls set up. We got on quick and set up two stations with a hog roast and a suckling roast. One had a delicious thyme and rosemary glaze and the other a new concoction – a Texan BBQ style. It’s a bit American but I wanted to try something new when we didn’t really have to worry about customers not really liking it!
Once that was under way I left Mark holding the fort while an went around to sample what the other traders had to offer.
There were some really exceptional roasts on offer and I was especially impressed by one that seemed to specialise on small Thyme basted chickens. They tasted fantastic and I will definitely be adding them at some point in the future,
Back to our stall and Mark seemed to have gathered quite a crowd explaining to them the techniques and special glazes we use on our roasts. Nothing else I could really add so I let him continue while I passed round samples. I made sure that everyone took a copy of our business card and I think we might have generated quite a few solid leads and we should have some events from this in the near future.
My old mate Terry from Park View farm popped across towards the end of the day. Always nice to see him and we got chance to catch up while the rest of the roasts went. He gave us a hand packing our stall up too. Further proof what a thoroughly nice chap he is!
It was a good market that’s for sure and always a worthwhile exercise for us as a business to interact with our peers and a great opportunity for us to pick up some new ideas and sample some of some of Sussex’ finest farmers produce. Speaking of that I think we might have found another reasonably priced farm to get some of our pigs from ad it something I think we should certainly try on one or two events in the near future. Onwards and upwards!
